Try turning out the light? Is it dark yet? Dark it might be but I bet it ain’t as dark as the Weekend Wolves are….especially if you watch the video to Karma without the lights on too. This track could be the opening/closing credits of a Seven like film. I know there’s Chillwave but...
I’ll start this review by firstly saying that it’s criminal that Stars are not given the same respect as fellow Canadians The Arcade Fire. Both bands were releasing records around the same time and I think Stars should’ve got just as much adulation.
HLM has done it again with probably his finest remix work to date. The HLM remix of Daft Punk’s Harder Better Faster Stronger keeps the magic of the epic original but he has taken us to a funkier and more bangtastic place.
Hurtlove by No Ceremony is a stunning track. The simple 3 key change loop of piano interlaced with haunting vocals and echoing drum beats works perfectly. We first heard this yesterday and it’s one of those tracks that is the perfect length where you just keep hitting play…and play….and play again.
Before we go any further, let me just ask you how good this track is? Awesome I hear you say and you’re damn right!!! The track Ritual Union in all it’s glory is pretty much one of the best track releases of 2011.
First up, I’m a big big fan of this track. Secondly, this track’s odd backing track hark back to the days of Moloko’s ‘Fun For Me’. Maybe that’s why I’m a sucker for this as it gets under your skin in a different way to most tracks.
We’re big fans of Penguin Prison and the future that is Mr Chris Glover. Since he’s been putting some remix magic on a lot of artists over recent months, been supporting the likes of Jamiroquai and also headlining his own shows, I think it is now finally time for the world to hail the music...
Another sunshine filled day and another great remix comes our way. Courtesy of the remixers Andrew Goldberg & AL Sharif comes a great reworking of ‘Pot of Gold’ by Game featuring Chris Brown.
Here’s a great remix of ‘Record Collection’. So good in fact, that as I type this I’ve just put it back on loop for a 2nd time. I love a good remix that barely resembles the original and this is one of those mixes indeed.
I’ve loved Metric for quite some time now and the original version of ‘Help I’m Alive’ from the album Fantasies is quite something. It also takes good production when you can remix a track and not kill it. Krusha has definitely done the opposite of butchery here.
Wow folks, this track is mighty!!! I had the pleasure to stream the new track from Florence + The Machine yesterday and ‘What The Water Gave Me’ is a sonic masterpiece.
Daft Punk’s original Derezzed track was awesome. No question. The Avicii remix that featured on the Tron Legacy remix album was ok (not a patch on the original). However, with the vocal edit that has now surfaced, I’m liking this track a lot more.
Well, going off this track, the recent mix of Rolling In The Deep and the downloads of Creative Destruction Part 2, it shouldn’t be long before Kenton Dunson is in fact on ‘Top Of The World’. This track is stupendously good and bringing along Passion Pit for the ride is always a worthwhile bonus to...
I’m feeling it all the way for the Brit From Spoon Remix of Feist. Take me to another place with your beats. Feist’s ‘I Feel It All’ is pretty awesome and the remix does the original some justice and a half.
We had some good news this week with Your Music Radar getting officially listed in the Blog Directory in The Hype Machine.
Hot off the press. Daniel Merriweather has announced an Acoustic Intimate Show this Monday 29 August at The Toff in Town, Melbourne.
Ellie Goulding is trying to break America at the moment with here recent re-shoot of the video for Starry Eyed and if the US public get a load of the DJ HLM remix too then it might just tip the scales in her favour and get her the praise she deserves.
There’s gold in them thar hills!!! That’s what the track ‘Big’ is by Sneaky Sound System. Pure gold!!! In fact it’s not just big, it is HUGE!!! This track harks back to their classics on their first album.
Are you familiar with Owl Eyes? If not, then you should make it your mission to listen to her, as she is one of Australia’s up and coming hot talents and will be not far off a household name by this time in 2012.
Well, I’ve just streamed an album premier preview of Active Child’s debut album ‘You Are All I See’ and let me tell you this. It is show stopping stuff!! Pat Grossi has pulled out some classics with the consistency of 2010′s Curtis Lane EP.
The track ‘Gun Shy’ by Widowspeak has those guitars that featured in a lot of classic Pixies and Lemonheads tracks. When you see that one of the other tracks they’ve done is a cover of Wicked Game by Chris Isaac, you get the feeling that Widowspeak could write the soundtrack to the next big western...
Nick Cave and Cut Copy fans, check out the line up for the Meredith Music Festival….I think you might just like it!!!
The world is spinning faster towards artists like Frankmusik, Penguin Prison, Hurts and all things well written again. Well, I think so anyway. Point in question is this corker of a track ‘Bernal Heights’ by Jhameel, taken from their 2nd album ‘The Human Condition’.
I’ve just acquainted my ears with this sparse ‘lo-fi’ smooth R&B track by Frank Ocean and I’ve got to say that ‘Thinking About You’ is pretty special indeed.
The Queensland Music Awards are out and they have honoured some of the State’s finest artists. Hip hip hooray!!! The Queensland music industry and fans were out in force tonight as the State’s finest artists were honoured at the first annual Queensland Music Awards. This was the first and will almost certainly not be the...
What a week it’s been and is going to be for up and coming music. The webosphere works in mysterious ways when it comes to peaks and troughs for great ‘emerging’ music. I’ll be honest that I’ve not heard of the LA band Poolside before but their cover of the Neil Young track ‘Harvest Moon’...
‘Colourfornia’ cometh!!! The Summadayze line-up has been announced and it’s a monster!!! Well done to the organisers of the 2012 festival as this one is a blinder for the beginning of the last year of the Mayan calendar!!
Check it out folks. There’s a new video clip to the absolutely awesome amazing cover of Suburbs by Mr Little Jeans. They’ve even recruited Alessandra Ambrosio in on the action.
Ooooh this one’s special!!! A great original track that has recently received an RAC remix touch but for me, the original of Velvet Elvis by Alex Winston is awesome. I’m a big fan of the RAC remixes though and they have done a solid remix too.
Listen very carefully as I shall say this only once!!! Unless you’re going to see a band that has a specific tour going on in Australia, i.e. the mighty Kimbra on her Australia tour, there are no Parklife sideshows this year!!!
There have been lots of mashups with the Bittersweet Symphony track used. There’s even been a few with Kanye tracks layered over. White Lotus has done an excellent job with this mashup indeed. Good timing too as the world is soaking up Kanye at the moment.
I’m pretty much worshipping anything that Maya Jane Coles lays her hands on at the moment. Whether it’s her own material or the production of remixes for other artists (Ritual Union by Little Dragon remix anyone). Maya Jane Coles is taking us back to the days of deep deep house and I for one...
It’s not often a recommendation to listen to a David Guetta track will grace the pages of this website. However, the track in question features the mighty Sia on vocal duties and it’s a scorcher.
You wait for one great mash up to come along and what do you know, two hit the radar in the same week. I’m not complaining. So, what is this hot mash up? Well, it’s Nelly vs. The Bee Gees and it is molten lava hot!!!
It’s tracks like ‘Video Games’ and artists like Lana Del Rey that are the reason this website/blog was set up in the first place. Lana Del Rey needs to be shouted from the roof tops and plugged away for her brilliance to be out to the masses. Read and listen on and you’ll understand why...
Faaark!!! This is an absolute quality mash up. Just when I was losing faith in the quality of new and improved mash ups that are out there at the moment, this mother by Hi-Fi Banjo Strings comes out to slap me in the face.
The original version of Heart’s A Mess by Gotye (pronounced like Jean Paul Gaultier’s surname) was and is an absolutely amazing track (and video to boot). But this remix by Lull has turned it into an absolute slow burning monster of a track.
Roll up. Roll up. Get your Lollapalooza Live Streaming. If you live in the US, you’re lucky lucky people as you get to watch the streamed Lollapalooza Festival through the wonders of YouTube (sponsored by Dell) around the same time depending on your sState of course. For us peeps in Australia, we’re +15 hours ahead....
Bravo to RUFUS for the re-edit of the smash track ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ by Gotye, featuring Kimbra. There’s a few remixes and bootleg remixes floating around of this track at the moment but this has to be up there with the best.
What do you get if you take llamas, dwarves, fire crackers and a Melbourne suburban street (when you don’t have a permit)? You get a cracking (no pun intended) video from an awesome band and a director who did the recent stop start clay animation on Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ video.
