I stumbled across Marta whilst doom scrolling on Instagram. What a scroll that was. I’ve been hooked since.
I haven’t felt a band has been as unique as this and genuinely goosebumply awesome for a long time. They really remind me of how I felt when first hearing and seeing 2ManyDJs. This is a jaw dropping vibe that I can’t get my head around how they such a low following.
Born in 2022 from the meeting between Joachim Baumerder on violin and Simon Lacouture on drums, marta is a live techno duo that brings the energy of the club into a fully live performance. Their approach is built on a deliberately stripped down setup: violin, drums, pedals, and a few pads, in service of physical, repetitive music designed for the dancefloor, where the organic constantly interacts with the codes of techno.
Good god they’re bloody good. If you listen to one band this day, month, year…make it Marta.
The Live Art Home versions of what you can hear below elevate the studio tracks 1000%. Both tracks here are taken from their ROOM album. There’s a new EP PUSH coming and the first single, LINE, drops on February 25. We’ll be on it but in the meantime get on this.
