Society of Tastemakers & Elegant People (STEP) – June 4th

STEP - Final Flyer (Web)

On Wednesday June 4, Society of Tastemakers & Elegant People (STEP) are poised to present the first in a series of events that combine intimate panel discussion and intellectual discourse on topics affecting the modern music industry with showcase performances from some of the brightest emerging talents Australia has to offer. STEP seeks to gather an audience of the most forward thinking minds in Australian music and initiate a think-tank with emphasis on knowledge sharing and fostering increased connectivity at all levels of the local game.

At the top of the night, STEP will play host to an intimate panel discussion on “Young Labels” moderated by Poncho.tv founder Nick Clarke which draws together four upcoming names in the Australian independent record industry to investigate how each came to be and what separates them practically and ideologically in their approach to releasing music in 2014.

From Melbourne upstarts Louis Papantos & Will Evans of Zero Through Nine (Leaks, Japanese Wallpaper) through to Dan Dalton from Perth purveyors of cool Pilerats (Sable, Deer), mixtape maestro Luen Jacobs of Sydney’s Hand Games and Lorrae McKenna of Dot Dash/Remote Control (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Courtney Barnett) the panel promises to reflect a diverse range of label models and unique perspectives on the business.

Following the panel, STEP presents a bespoke line-up of emerging local talent including the textured electronic beatscapes of Lower Spectrum, fresh hip hop stylings of Milwaukee Banks and a DJ set from panelist LUEN, fresh from support gigs alongside the likes of Sky Ferreira and Elizabeth Rose.

Doors at 7.30pm. Panel from 8:00pm. Performances from 9pm.
