SXSW 2012: Michael Kiwanuka

Well, if the US didn’t know about BBC Sounds of 2012 winner Michael Kiwanuka, they do now.  I’m typing this up at The Austin Convention Centre and the dreamy vocal honey talents of Mr. Kiwanuka are drifting in the air tonight.

What a voice.  I was expecting to be impressed but not blown away like this.  What a voice x2 in fact. Stunning.  If there was ever a voice and a performer to chill out to, this is the guy you’d want to play.  It’s a simple acoustic performance on the main stage at the Radio Day Stage at the Austin Convention Centre but it is a powerful one.  In the last 10 minutes, there have been swarms of people drifting in after hearing his magical vocal talents wafting down the corridor.  Rightly so too as this place should be packed out for this man.

Life is good when you are listening to Michael Kiwanuka.

Checkout a preview of his tracks below and if you’re in Austin right now, you have two more official SXSW chances to see him.  Check him out on Friday 12.30am – 1.20am at St. David’s Historic Sanctuary and if you miss that one he is also playing Stubb’s on Saturday at 8pm – 8.40pm.

There’s a very good chance that we are going to hit both of the other gigs as he is so damn good!!!
